Bathroom Sink Vanities

In all homes, the bathroom sink gets a lot of use. Designers are making constant efforts to come up with creative and unique designs to make bathrooms more pleasant places to visit. So in case youre thinking that your bathroom sink is functioning just fine, it may actually seem old and outdated.

Various types of Bathroom Sink Vanities:

Lav or Lavatory:

This is just another name for a bathroom sink or wash basin.

Pedestal Sink:

It is a one-piece sink mounted on a column. Pedestal sinks are quite popular and they are often used in small areas like a powder room, etc. They are available in all kinds of colors and styles. You can give a small bathroom a quite a quick and relatively inexpensive facelift by installing a pedestal sink and a matching toilet. The drawback of pedestal sinks is that they don’t offer much sink decking or storage.

Vanity:

A vanity is a sink and countertop combination, which sits on top of cabinetry having doors and often drawers for storage. Vanities can be of two types; either built in or freestanding. The vanity is a very practical design because it keeps clutter out of sight and bathroom necessities become easily accessible. The drawback is that they can become outdated fairly quickly as popular colors and styles change constantly.

Wall Mount Sinks:

Wall mount sinks are exactly what they sound like. A wall mount sink is either attached to or hung from a wall. This design is useful as it keeps the area under the sink open and is quite helpful when there is scarce bathroom floor space. Wall mounted sinks have a similar drawback like pedestal sinks that they don’t have any integrated storage.

Freestanding Basins or Vessel Sinks:

This is a relatively new term and design that is becoming quite popular now days. In this design, the sink bowl has the appearance that it is sitting on a countertop. Freestanding basins or vessel sinks are often built into non-traditional bathroom furniture. The type of furniture that the vessel sink sits on is actually a determinant of any storage associated with the sink. Vessel sinks although very adaptable from a design perspective, do need specialized faucets and drain assemblies, because most don’t have overflow drains. This can cause a major problem in case a faucet is ever left running.
